CHÂTEAU CANTEMERLE 2012
HAUT MEDOC - GRAND CRU CLASSE
Blend : Cabernet Sauvignon 56%, Merlot 36%, Petit Verdot 6%, Cabernet Franc 2%.
Dress : deep ruby color
Tasting notes : aromas lightly highlighting vanilla: this is the first impression. In the mouth the wine is all softness and generosity. This is a classic vintage, soft and supple, full of charm. The palate is predominated by fruit like strawberry and red currant, which evolve to subtle game flavors on the finish.
History : Today, the property is more than ever in the sporting competition in which the Grands Cru Classés of the Médoc are engaged in favor of quality.
In the Middle Ages, the castle Cantemerle was part of the line of fortifications that defended the banks of the Medoc, about a kilometer from the current castle. In 1981, Château Cantemerle joined the property inheritance of the powerful insurance mutuals of the building and the public works (SMABTP), after being successively the property of the families Villeneuve (1576-1892) and Dubos (1892-1980). This rich heritage is found both in the unique architecture of the castle and in the beautiful park that surrounds it. This beautiful ensemble contributes to the romantic charm and magic emanating from this winery.
The soil of Cantemerle is silico-gravelly. These gravel resulting from the ancient erosion of the Pyrenees by the Garonne are one of the capital elements of a quality terroir. They are poor soils, but the vine must suffer to give rise to concentrated grapes.
