In the first quarter of the 18th century, Alexandre de Segur owned the estates of Latour, Lafite, and Mouton. It is said of him that he is the "Prince of the vineyards", so much has he already given to these vineyards the impulse towards a great destiny ... He bequeaths them to his son Nicolas Alexandre. By his marriage, Nicolas de Ségur comes into possession of the Château de Calon.
It is a vineyard of 95 ha in one piece, which is extremely rare in Médoc, which was implanted on a gravelly ridge very well exposed, on the banks of the Gironde. The vineyard thus overlooks the estuary. The proximity of this rather large body of water, which in the country is called river, has a very calming climatic effect on the vineyard.
