CHÂTEAU COUHINS Blanc 2014

Pessac-LÉOGNAN

Classified Growth

Château Couhins is a 45 hectare vineyard located at the gates of Bordeaux on a terroir recognized as one of the best of the AOC Pessac-Léognan. Put on sale following the wine crisis of the 60s, it was acquired by INRA in 1969.

Château Couhins ("confines" in old Gascon) takes its name from its location on the borders of the former County of Ornon, along the creek of Eau Blanche. Until the seventeenth century Couhins and Carbonnieux castles are only one area. in 1968, the vineyard of Couhins is almost abandoned. On the dozens of acres that composed it a few decades ago, there remains little more than 2 hectares of vines which André Lurton will ensure the vinification until 1979. In the years that follow, INRA will focus on restructuring the vineyard on the basis of a new fragmented definition and proceed to the construction of a winery which will see the day in 1981.

The terroir of Couhins has two facets. A ridge of gravel and a clay-limestone slope. The stony croup of Couhins is one of the highlights of Villenave d'Ornon (41 m) and is naturally one of the most qualitative of the appellation. This is the preferred terroir of Cabernet Sauvignon, a variety that requires a water constraint to express its potential.

Blend :
Sauvignon Blanc 85%, Sémillon 15%.

Tasting notes :
Château Couhins white seduces with its delicate bouquet of spring flowers and white-fleshed fruits, its elegance and persistence on the palate.
