CHÂTEAU SOCIANDO MALLET 2014

HAUT MEDOC

The Château Sociando Mallet is located in the town of Saint-Seurin Cadourne, about ten kilometers north of Pauillac, appellation Haut-Médoc.A document dating from March 1633 refers to noble lands in this municipality belonging to a family of Basque origin called Socciondo. In 1793, Sociando was bought by Jean Lamothe. In 1831, Marie-Elisabeth Alaret, owner of the estate and niece of Lamothe, married Achille Mallet, naval captain. The estate is then named Sociando-Mallet. The Allaret family remained owner until 1878, when the castle was passed to Léon Simon. Between this moment and the arrival of Jean Gautreau, the property passed into the hands of several merchants.

Since the 17th century, Sociando Mallet occupies the hillock of Baleyron, one of the most beautiful terroirs of the Medoc. The terroir of Sociando-Mallet is made up of gravel from the Guntzian period, on a deep clay-limestone subsoil. It allows Cabernets Sauvignons to ripen in excellent conditions and merlots to acquire porfondeur and complexity, while regulating perfectly the water supply of the vine. This terroir is the soul of Sociando wines, thanks to their complex structure, freshness and elegance. The grape variety is composed of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. The vines are 30 years old on average.

Tasting notes :
Château Sociando-Mallet produces full-bodied wines with a deep, dark colour. Their complex bouquet is usually dominated by black fruit aromas with a touch of minerality and well-integrated, elegant oak. Often somewhat "virile" when young, the wines gain in balance and complexity with age. They are fresh, straightforward, and have a wonderful length.
